It can go up or down at any point depending on such inane things like whether you’re late to work, how your day is progressing, or what your boss just said to you. One minute you can be on top of the world and the next minute shot down to the depths of self-doubt.

It’s no wonder that your self-esteem must be nurtured, but sometimes it’s hard to figure out how to do it in a way that’s best for you. Self-talk is the answer! What you say to yourself can make the difference between success and failure.

Unfortunately, people tend to be their own worst critics. This just means that you’re more likely to be much harder on yourself for making a mistake than you would be for a family member or even a stranger. This doesn’t have to be the way you treat yourself.

When you talk to yourself, say something you want to hear! Encourage and congratulate yourself even for the little things. When your self-talk is positive, your self-esteem can soar and you can maintain a healthy self-esteem through anything life can throw at you.

Eliminate the Negative

The first thing you’ll want to do is analyze your current self-talk patterns. What are you saying to yourself?

Identify the instances where you’re negative. You might be telling yourself that you can’t accomplish something. You may be beating yourself up because you made a mistake. Or you may just be generally discouraging to yourself. Those negative patterns are wake up calls for you to start talking to yourself with tender loving care.

In order to raise your self-esteem, you must first erase your negative self-talk. Give yourself the benefit of the doubt, and start treating yourself with understanding. If you feel like you haven’t accomplished enough, shift your focus over to what you have accomplished.

At the end of the day, you’ll begin to feel proud of yourself instead of discouraged. It’s just one step closer to being happy and comfortable with who you are!

Be Positive

After you’ve identified where you’ve been negative in your life, you can concentrate on the positive aspects. You have opportunities all the time to treat yourself right, and you can take advantage of them with the help of positive self-talk.

Consider the following tips:

1.	Congratulate yourself. When you’ve done a job well, take the time to congratulate yourself. It’s important to give yourself a pat on the back every now and then. Even if you haven’t accomplished anything huge, you’re certainly making progress. Reflect on how good it makes you feel.

2.	Use affirmations. One way to bring positive energy into your life is to use positive affirmations. Affirmations are short positive statements that are written in the present tense. Say them to yourself often as a reminder of what a great person you are (because you are!).

•	Affirmations have such a powerful ability to influence the mind that you should take advantage of them and practice with them every day.

3.	Believe in yourself. Someone else can tell you that you’re good enough to accomplish anything, but it’ll never make a difference if you don’t believe it yourself. It’s the motivation and belief in yourself that will always pick you back up when you fall.

•	Everyone deals with failure from time to time, but remember that it’s a learning experience too. Maybe you’ll learn something during a “failure” that gives you the knowledge to finally succeed. Consider it a gift in disguise!

When you take the time to be positive and patient with yourself every day, you’ll raise your self-esteem. Allow yourself to be human, focus on the positive, and you’ll go far.

It can be a real burden, especially when your whole family depended on that job and the income it provided.

However, you can find the strength to recover from a tragic job loss. Sometimes it’s difficult to find the silver lining, but it’s always there waiting to be discovered.

Focusing On Your Self-Esteem

Your thoughts are very powerful. Sometimes you may think that you don’t have control over your thoughts, but you always do. Of course you should give yourself time to recover from the initial shock of a job loss, but it’s how you choose to react afterwards that makes all the difference.

When you focus on developing positive self-esteem, you’ll be able to think clearly and confidently so you can figure out what your next steps are going to be. You may even use this new opportunity to finally follow your dream job.

Have these tips in mind to keep your self-esteem intact:

1.	Give yourself time to grieve. Sometimes you don’t think of job loss as being the same as other types of loss, but the shock can be the same and you should allow yourself some time to go through the standard stages of grief. You’ll eventually recover from the shock, but give yourself an appropriate amount of time to absorb the situation.

2.	Look for a support system. You might feel especially alone after losing your job. Your initial reaction might be to run and hide and keep your emotions inside. Be sure to fight this feeling and, instead, rely on your support system. Remember: it’s okay to ask for help, that’s what your support network is for!

3.	Keep up your motivation. After the shock has worn off, it’s important to strive for a certain level of enthusiasm and motivation to find another job. You need to believe in yourself and trust that things will turn out for the best. Remember that your new job might be even better than your last one!

4.	Looking for a new job. When you’re ready to start the search, consider all of your options. You may want to consider whether or not you really enjoyed the field you were in before. Consider your job loss as a new opportunity. Maybe you’d like to try bringing your life into a different direction.

5.	Keep an eye on your finances. When you deal with job loss, you must also deal with the financial realities. Determine your current financial situation and how long you have until you must return to work. Maybe you have to find a job right away, or perhaps you have enough savings to consider other career options. Whatever the case may be, you should know what the financial implications mean to you and your family.

New Life: New Opportunities

After dealing with job loss, the best thing you can do is to think of it as a new opportunity in life. Sure, you didn’t choose to embark on this path at this particular time, but it’s important to roll with the punches.

Don’t be afraid to take risks. Also, don’t be afraid to adopt the attitude that everything happens for a reason. Bad things happen in life, but good things happen too. Stay strong for yourself and your family and your self-esteem will prevail.

When children first get exposed to a group setting, like that of pre-school or a play area where there are lots of other kids, it won’t be a surprise if they suddenly buckle down and turn shy. Often you, as a parent, will have to coerce the child to mingle. What parent would want a social wallflower for a child, right?

A lot of parents encounter this problem of having to almost push their kids into a play group just so they would socialize. More often than not, this strategy ends not with a nod of agreement from the kid, but an afternoon of bawling.

If you’ve honed your child’s self esteem early on, socializing will not be a problem for him or her. In fact, if you’ve taught your kid not to be afraid of other kids and to believe that he or she can do many things and that taking risks are a part of life, seeing him minble, speak for himself, and make his own decisions will be part of your child-rearing achievements.

Most kids are hesitant to go out into the world and prefer to hide under their parents’ guidance. However, as they get older, this kind of attitude is not something you should encourage. Your kid has to learn to be independent at some point. You are assured that your kid will be fine if you arm him or her with self esteem.

How is self esteem built in children? Here are some tips.

a. Encourage him or her to get out of his or her comfort zone.

A kid that’s too sheltered all his life, that is, you’re always there to do things for him and make him stick strictly to a daily routine, then you can count on seeing him or her just stand in the corner and cry when something out of the routine happens. Give him or her variety. Expose him to new ideas and allow him to wander.

b. Realize that you can’t protect your child forever.

The only way for kids to effectively learn and adapt to life’s harsh realities is if we allow them to make mistakes. While we don’t want to see our kids get hurt and disappointed, failure is often necessary in order for them to learn how to cope. Mistakes are a natural part of life. No matter how hard you try to shield them from error, children will inevitably face the mat some point in their lives.

c. Leave him to his element.

Don’t force what you want on your child – he was not born to fulfill the dreams you weren’t able to reach. Let him develop into the person he is meant to be, with you just staying in the sidelines to guide him along the way. Accept that your child has his own identity. Let him grow and flourish at his own pace and at his own time.

The above are just a few of the things that you can do to boost your child’s self esteem. You have to first believe in your child’s ability to think for himself before you can convince him or her that he or she can do it. How high your kid’s self esteem can reach will depend on your encouragement.

Parenting is a difficult job and there is no single and clear-cut way to emerge victorious. However, you will already feel as if you have succeeded if your child is confident enough to face the world.

Is your self esteem low? Well there are ways to build it up so you don’t do anything destructive and you can do that by following these tips.

First, take a look at yourself and make an assessment. We are not all perfect. There are things that we are ashamed of and there are things that we regret doing. With that, we have to recognize our insecurities.

Once we are able to recognize our insecurities, it is time to for us to try and make it go away. The best way to do is to talk with our loved ones and friends about it. Listen to their advice and then try to resolve one issue before moving on to the next one.

If we only look at our faults, we are not giving credit to who we really are so we must also identify our strengths and successes. Think about what you are good at and then be proud of it. You could excel in a sport, play a musical instrument or have talent drawing.

For those who don’t think they don’t have any talent but would like to see where they can excel in, you should probably try out a few classes and then continue doing whichever makes you happy.

Another way you can build up your self-esteem is to be happy with what you have. A lot of times, we wish we had more money, live in a bigger house or drive a fancier car. If you are able to appreciate what you have rather than wishing for something you don’t, you will never feel incomplete or unsatisfied with how your life is right now.

Part of building your self esteem is being optimistic. This means having a positive outlook in life and never allowing others to put you down. If you let this upset you, this could bring you down even more. So just filter out the good from the bad because only you can determine what happens in your future.

You build up your self esteem every single day the moment you wake up in the morning. Once you get out of bed, look in the mirror and smile because the expression on your face tells your brain that today is going to be a great day.

If you go to work or school with a problem, don’t let other people see it because they could take advantage of it. With that, you have to learn how to fake it so everyone will think how confident you are.

This will even come in handy when you try something for the first time or want to take a gamble on something. If things don’t work out, at least you can say you tried and if you want to do it again, you can learn from your mistakes and hopefully achieve better results.

How to build up self esteem takes time so don’t expect to make a complete 180 degree of yourself overnight. Aside from focusing on yourself, you also have to be sensitive to the needs of others because you are just one person out of more than 6 billion people in this world and you have to get along with almost everyone you meet. Never try to be someone your not because people will see your true colors.

Everyone strives to find ways to improve their self esteem. Whether you’re doing this subconsciously or physically it doesn’t really matter. But this creates a challenge especially since you’re not particular on what you would like to improve on. Chances are you’re improving low self esteem without even thinking about it.

Not many are familiar with the ways of improving their self esteem and here are ten helpful guides you can easily follow.

• Stock up on your self esteem by creating a check list of things you want to improve on. Start by how you communicate with others. Accomplish one change at a time and put check on it once you’re done and move on to what’s next on the list.

• Feel good about yourself starting now and show that extra confidence to everyone wherever and whenever you find yourself in. Remember it’s the journey that matters most than the destination.

• Create a goal for yourself by knowing what you want. Find out how the people around you or the ones you meet can help you get closer to your goals. This will help you determine how you can approach each person. Do this always and the results are noticeable.

• Get driven and motivate yourself. Let everyone know how any of them can help you in your goals. People who are very driven end up being successful in their careers.

• Develop the mindset that every person you meet is important. It’s surprising how effective this is.

• Two things: give a good handshake and look a person in the eye when speaking to them. Make sure your handshake is firm and not too hard. Always try to look for a good character trait you find attractive in every person you meet.

• Learn to listen. Give notice to what others are saying. Try to remember a person’s name and if you forget ask their name after exchanging a couple of sentences.

• Show a person that you are responding to them by nodding or calling out their name. Make use of your listening abilities. Remember, people can read through your body language.

• Remind yourself that everything is not all about you by paying attention to others around you. Learn to accept news whether it is good or bad. Empathize with other people’s situation and genuinely show that you care.

• Do not interrupt a person while speaking whether you’re doing this mentally or verbally. In short, give a person your full attention when they are speaking because its’ rude if you don’t.

Now that you know how to improve yourself esteem, try to apply this in your everyday interactions with others.
